باب الصَّلاَةِ إِلَى سُتْرَةٍ:
Chapter: Praying towards a barrier
Hadith 1447
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جُحَيْفَةَ يَقُولُ: "خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْبَطْحَاءِ بِالْهَاجِرَةِ، فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَالْعَصْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ عَنَزَةٌ، وَإِنَّ الظُّعُنَ لَتَمُرُّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ".
Sayyiduna Abu Juhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to (the valley of) Batha at noon and performed two rak‘ahs each of Zuhr and ‘Asr prayers (i.e., with jam‘ taqdim), and there was a spear as a sutrah in front of him, and the mounts of women were passing in front of him.
Hadith 1448
أَخْبَرَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ"كَانَتْ تُرْكَزُ لَهُ الْعَنَزَةُ يُصَلِّي إِلَيْهَا".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a spear (staff) would be fixed for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would face towards it and perform prayer (i.e., in an open space, he would make the spear or staff a sutrah and pray towards it).
