Hadith 1246
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that one night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the ‘Isha prayer so much that about one third of the night had passed. Then he came out while the worshippers were sitting in groups and circles, dozing off. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), being displeased, said: “If a man were to call people for a bone or two hooves (as food), they would rush to it, but they lag behind from this prayer (‘Isha prayer). I have intended to tell someone to lead the prayer, then I would go to the houses of those who stay behind from the (congregational) prayer and set fire to their houses.”

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the ‘Isha prayer one night until Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) called out to him that the women and children have fallen asleep. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then came out and said: “None among the people of the earth performs this prayer except you.” And at that time, there were no Muslims anywhere except in Madinah, or that the reward for waiting for such a noble prayer has been destined by Allah only for the Ummah of Muhammad.
Hadith 1248
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed (the ‘Isha prayer) one night until a large part of the night had passed, and those who were in the mosque had fallen asleep. Then he came out and said: “If it were not for the hardship upon my Ummah, this would be the time for (this prayer).”
Hadith 1249
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the ‘Isha prayer one night. It was said: “The prayer, O Messenger of Allah, the women and children have fallen asleep.” So you came out, and water was dripping from your side, and you (peace and blessings be upon you) said: “This is (the proper) time (for this prayer) if it were not difficult for my Ummah.”
