Sunan ad-Darimi

باب الاِسْتِدَارَةِ في الأَذَانِ:
Chapter: Turning During the Adhan
Hadith 1232
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللهِ عَنْهُ، أَنَّهُ رَأَى بِلَالًا أَذَّنَ، قَالَ: "فَجَعَلْتُ أَتَتَبَّعُ فَاهُ هَهُنَا وَهَهُنَا بِالْأَذَانِ".
It is narrated from Abu Juhaifa that he saw Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) giving the call to prayer (adhan). He said: I also began to turn my face here and there along with his mouth during the adhan.
Hadith 1233
أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادٌ، عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ بِلَالًا "رَكَزَ الْعَنَزَةَ، ثُمَّ أَذَّنَ، وَوَضَعَ أُصْبُعَيْهِ فِي أُذُنَيْهِ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَدُورُ فِي أَذَانِهِ" . قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ: حَدِيثُ الثَّوْرِيِّ أَصَحُّ.
It is narrated from Abu Juhaifa that Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) planted his staff, then gave the call to prayer (adhan), and put his fingers in his ears. I saw that he turned while giving the adhan. Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The hadith of Sufyan Thawri (mentioned above) is more authentic.
