Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: An Ansari woman asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the ritual bath after menstruation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Take water with lotus leaves, clean the place of blood thoroughly, then pour water over your head so that it reaches the roots of the hair (perform the bath in this way), then take a piece of cotton with musk applied to it and apply it.” She asked: O Messenger of Allah! How should I apply the cotton? He remained silent. She again asked: How should I apply the cotton? He again remained silent, so Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) whispered to her: Take a piece of cotton with musk applied to it and apply it to the place of blood. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this and did not object.

Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for a ruling regarding her. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She should count the number of nights and days in each month that she used to have menstruation before this illness, and leave the prayer for that many days. Then, when those days have passed and the time for prayer comes, she should perform ghusl, place a piece of cotton on her private part, and then perform the prayer."
Hadith 804
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Sayyida Umm Habiba (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! The blood has overpowered me (i.e., it does not stop), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ghusl and offer the prayer."
Hadith 805
Amrah bint Abdur Rahman said: I heard from Umm al-Mu'mineen, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that Lady Umm Habibah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She had been suffering from istihada (non-menstrual bleeding) for seven years. She mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and sought a ruling. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "This is not menstrual blood; it is a vein. So perform ghusl and offer prayer." Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: So Lady Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to perform ghusl for every prayer and then offer prayer, and when she would sit in the tub, the redness of the blood would appear on the surface of the water, then (after ghusl) she would offer prayer.

Qaqa' bin Hakim asked Sa'id (ibn al-Musayyib) about the issue of a woman with prolonged bleeding (mustahadah), so he said: Nephew! Is there anyone left who knows this issue better than me?
It is narrated from Imam Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, regarding the mustahadah woman who knows the days of her menstruation: when she is divorced and the blood continues, she will complete the waiting period of three menstrual cycles according to those days. And regarding her prayer, it is narrated from him that during the days of menstruation she has in each month, she will not perform prayer.
Hadith 818
It is narrated from Mu'tamir (bin Sulaiman) that his father asked Qatadah: A woman who knows the days of her menstruation, and if blood continues to flow for five, four, or three more days, what should she do? He replied: She should perform prayers. Sulaiman said: If the blood continues for two days? He replied: This is still menstrual blood. He said: And I asked Imam Ibn Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, and he said: Women know this matter better.
Hadith 819
It is narrated from Imam Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him: The woman who experiences bleeding during the days of purity, in my opinion, she should perform ghusl and offer prayers.
Hadith 820
It is narrated from Shahr bin Hawshab: Regarding a woman experiencing istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding), Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked, so he replied: She will wait for the number of days of her menstruation and refrain from prayer, then she will perform ghusl (ritual bath) and offer prayers, until her menstrual days return, then she will again leave the prayer and perform ghusl. This continuous flow of blood is from Satan; he wants that one of these women should abandon prayer and thus fall into disbelief.
Hadith 821
Abu Ja'far Muhammad bin Ali said regarding the mustahadah: During the days of menstruation, she should leave the prayer, then perform ghusl, insert a piece of cotton, and perform wudu for every prayer time.
Hadith 822
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The woman experiencing istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) will refrain from prayer during the days of menstruation, then she will perform one ghusl (ritual bath) and will perform wudu (ablution) for every prayer (i.e., taking a bath is not necessary for every prayer).
Hadith 823
Anas bin Sirin said: A woman from the family of Anas was afflicted with the illness of istihada (non-menstrual bleeding), so they instructed me to ask the ruling from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). He replied that when she sees a lot of red blood, she should not pray, and when she sees purity at any time during the day, she should perform ghusl and pray. (That is, even if the menstruation stops for a short while, she should perform ghusl and pray.)
Hadith 824
Anas bin Sirin said: The slave woman (umm walad) of Anas bin Malik had istihada (non-menstrual bleeding), so people told me to ask for a fatwa from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). Therefore, I asked him, and he replied: When she sees a lot of blood, she should not pray, and when she feels purity, she should perform ghusl and then pray.
Hadith 825
It is narrated from Dahhak that a woman asked him: I suffer from the illness of Istihada (irregular bleeding), so he said: When you see fresh blood, then during the days of menstruation, refrain from prayer.

Ibrahim said: The woman with irregular bleeding will remain seated during her menstrual period (i.e., she will not pray, and when she becomes pure) she will perform ghusl once for Zuhr and Asr, delay Maghrib and pray it at the beginning time of Isha, and perform ghusl once for Fajr. She will neither fast, nor have intercourse with her husband, nor touch the Holy Qur'an.
Hadith 827
Ata said: Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say regarding the woman experiencing istihada (non-menstrual bleeding) that she should perform ghusl once for Zuhr and Asr, and once for Maghrib and Isha. He also used to say that she should delay Zuhr and pray Asr early, and delay Maghrib and pray Isha early.
Hadith 828
It is narrated from Mujahid regarding the woman experiencing irregular bleeding (mustahadah) that when her menstrual blood becomes irregular, if this irregularity occurs at the time of Asr, she should perform ablution, take a cloth and bind it with cotton, then combine and perform the Zuhr and Asr prayers together, and continue doing so. Then she should combine and perform the Maghrib and Isha prayers together, and continue doing so. Then she should perform the Fajr prayer.

Ata, Saeed, and Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on them) used to say regarding the mustahadah (a woman with non-menstrual bleeding) that she should perform ghusl once daily for the first prayer (Dhuhr) and 'Asr, and after performing ghusl once for Maghrib and 'Isha, she should pray both prayers, and for the Fajr prayer she should perform ghusl once.
Hadith 830
