Hadith 785
Saeed bin Al-Musayyib said: My maternal aunt (Khawla bint Hakim Al-Salmiya) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about a woman who experiences a wet dream (i.e., what should she do), so he instructed her to perform ghusl (ritual bath).

It is narrated from Urwah bin Zubair that Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), informed him: The mother of Banu Abu Talhah, Lady Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Allah does not shy away from the truth. If a woman sees wetness in her sleep like a man, should she perform ghusl (ritual bath)? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Yes, she should perform ghusl." Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Shame on you, does a woman have a wet dream? The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) turned towards Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "May dust stick to your hands, then from where does the resemblance come?" This is an Arabic idiom generally used as a curse, meaning may poverty and need come upon you, but here it is not meant as a curse but rather as an expression of astonishment.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) entered and asked: “If a woman sees in a dream what a man sees (i.e., experiences a wet dream), what should she do?” Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “May your hands be dusted, you have disgraced women!” But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), supporting Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), said: “Rather (O wife), may your hands be dusted! The best of women are those who ask about their needs.” Then he said: “When a woman sees wetness (fluid), she should perform ghusl (ritual bath).” Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “Do women also have fluid?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes, then how does the child resemble them? They (i.e., women) are like men (in nature and habits), or women are the counterparts of men.”
