Hadith 740
It is narrated from Asim bin Sufyan that after the Battle of Salasil, those people returned to Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and with him were Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub and Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever performs ablution as he has been commanded, and prays as he has been commanded, his previous (bad) deeds are forgiven." O Uqbah! Is it not so? He said: Yes (that is exactly so).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a Muslim or a believing servant performs ablution and washes his face, all the (minor) sins committed by his eyes are washed away with the water or with the last drop of water. Then when he washes his hands, every sin committed by his hands is washed away with the water or with the last drop of water, until he emerges purified from all (minor) sins."

It is narrated from Abu Uthman that I was with Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) under a tree when he broke off a dry branch and shook it, causing all its leaves to fall. He said: "Will you not ask me why I did this?" I replied: "Why did you do this?" He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did the same when I was with him." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a Muslim performs ablution well and offers the five prayers, his sins fall away just like these leaves." Then he recited this noble verse: «﴿وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ﴾ إِلىٰ قَوْلِهٖ ﴿ذَلِكَ ذِكْرَى لِلذَّاكِرِينَ﴾» [هود 114/11 ] "Establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in some hours of the night. Indeed, good deeds remove bad deeds. That is a reminder for those who remember."
