Hadith 96
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا ثَوْرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: صَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ، ثُمَّ وَعَظَنَا مَوْعِظَةً بَلِيغَةً ذَرَفَتْ مِنْهَا الْعُيُونُ، وَوَجِلَتْ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ، فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، كَأَنَّهَا مَوْعِظَةُ مُوَدِّعٍ ؟ فَأَوْصِنَا، فَقَالَ: "أُوصِيكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ وَإِنْ كَانَ عَبْدًا حَبَشِيًّا، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ يَعِشْ مِنْكُمْ بَعْدِي فَسَيَرَى اخْتِلَافًا كَثِيرًا، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِسُنَّتِي وَسَنَّةِ الْخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِينَ الْمَهْدِيِّينَ، عَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْمُحْدَثَاتِ، فَإِنَّ كُلَّ مُحْدَثَةٍ بِدْعَةٌ"، وقَالَ أَبُو عَاصِمٍ مَرَّةً: "وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحْدَثَاتِ الْأُمُورِ، فَإِنَّ كُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ".
Sayyiduna ‘Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Fajr prayer, then he gave us a very effective admonition, due to which eyes were filled with tears and hearts trembled. A man said, “This is the sermon of someone bidding farewell, so please advise us.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I advise you to fear Allah and to listen and obey (i.e., to listen to the leader and act upon his command), even if (the leader) is an Abyssinian slave. Whoever among you lives after me will see much disagreement, so hold fast to my Sunnah and the way of the rightly guided Caliphs, cling to it with your molar teeth. Beware of newly invented matters (in religion), for every innovation is misguidance.” Abu ‘Asim once said: «إِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحْدَثَاتِ الْأُمُوْرِ» that is, beware of new matters, for every innovation is misguidance.
