Hadith 938

It is narrated from Imam Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him, regarding the divorced woman whose menstruation is not known (i.e., whether it comes or has stopped), he said: She will wait for a full year; if menstruation occurs, then fine, otherwise after one year she will observe the waiting period ('iddah) for three months. Then if menstruation occurs, then fine; if it does not occur, then her 'iddah is complete.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 932 to 938)

The meaning is that if menstruation (hayd) has stopped and divorce has taken place, then she will wait for menstruation for one year, and then she will observe the waiting period (‘iddah) for three months. If menstruation occurs within these three months, then she will complete her ‘iddah according to the menstruation. And if menstruation stops again during these three months, then after completing three months, her ‘iddah will be considered complete.

As is mentioned in detail in Musannaf ‘Abd al-Razzaq.
