Ikrimah (the freed slave of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both) said in the explanation of the verse: «﴿وَلَا يَحِلُّ لَهُنَّ أَنْ يَكْتُمْنَ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ فِي أَرْحَامِهِنَّ ......﴾» [البقرة 228/2]: that what is meant by it is menstruation. (That is, it is not permissible for women to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs, meaning to conceal the cessation of menstruation.)
Imam Darimi, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked: Do you also say that what is meant by it is menstruation? He replied: No. And regarding the aforementioned verdict of Shurayh, Imam Darimi was also asked: Do you also say this? He replied: No, how can there be menstruation three times in one month?
