Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 870)

That is, a mature girl who experiences menstruation (hayd) for the first time and it continues—how many days should she be considered menstruating (ha’idh), and when should she be considered experiencing irregular bleeding (mustahadah)? In such a case, for as many days as the women of her family generally menstruate, she too will refrain from prayer during those days as her menstrual period. The remaining days will be counted as istihada (irregular bleeding).
