Hadith 870

Imam Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If blood appears one or two days before the days of menstruation begin, then it is also menstruation.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 866 to 870)

There are independent juristic opinions (ijtihad) and differences regarding the minimum and maximum duration of menstruation (hayd), and its specification is not established from any hadith. Every woman has her own habitual period (adah shahrīyah), and a woman herself can distinguish between menstruation (hayd) and irregular bleeding (istihada).
