Hadith 854

Imam Ibrahim al-Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It used to be said that a woman experiencing istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) should not have intercourse, nor should she fast, nor touch the Mushaf; she is only permitted to perform prayer. Yazid bin Harun (the narrator of this) said: Her husband may have intercourse with her, and for her (the woman experiencing istihada), everything is permissible that is permissible for a woman in a state of purity.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 849 to 854)
In all these narrations, intercourse with a woman experiencing istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) is prohibited, and apart from prayer, her ruling is similar to that of a menstruating woman (ha’idh).
However, despite the authenticity of these statements and narrations, they are outweighed and are based on individual reasoning (ijtihad). The correct view is that the husband of a woman experiencing istihada may have intercourse with her; she will also perform prayers, may touch the Mushaf (copy of the Qur’an), and may recite it, as stated in the last narration by Yazid bin Harun, and as detailed in the previous chapter.
