Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: We were with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he entered the bathroom, and when he came out after relieving himself, food was presented, and it was said: Will you not perform ablution? He (peace be upon him) said: "Is it for prayer that I should perform ablution?"

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 789) From this it is understood that for a person in a state of minor ritual impurity (without ablution), eating, drinking, verbal remembrance (dhikr), and recitation (tilawah) without ablution are all permissible.
