Hadith 775

Ata bin Abi Rabah said that he heard Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrate that a man was wounded during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), then he had a wet dream. He was ordered to perform ghusl (ritual bath), and he died. When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was informed of this, he said: "They have killed him, may Allah deal with them. Is not the cure for ignorance to ask?" Ata bin Abi Rabah said: I have heard that after this, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked, and he said: "He (the wounded man) should have washed his body and left his head where the wound was."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 774)

In this, there is a severe warning for those who issue religious verdicts (fatwa) without knowledge, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) described it as a grave crime, saying: “These people have killed him, may Allah seize them. If they did not know, they should have asked someone knowledgeable.”

From this, it is understood that in the ritual bath (ghusl) of major impurity (janabah), it is not necessary to wash a wound.
