Hadith 764

It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Qais bint Mihsan (may Allah be pleased with her) that she brought her son to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who had not yet learned to eat food (i.e., he was an infant). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) seated him in his lap, and the child urinated. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water, sprinkled it over (the garment), and did not wash it.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 763)

From this authentic hadith, it is understood that if a nursing (infant) boy urinates, it is sufficient to sprinkle water on the garment; there is no need to wash it. In other ahadith, it is explicitly stated that the urine of baby girls must be washed, and the wisdom behind this is best known to Allah Ta’ala. In the present era, physicians have acknowledged that the urine of a baby girl comes from such vessels that render it impure.

And Allah knows best.
