Hadith 759

It is narrated from Kabsha bint Ka'b bin Malik, who was the daughter-in-law of Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), that Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to her, and she brought water for his ablution. In the meantime, a cat came and began to drink from the water, so Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) tilted the vessel so that it (the cat) could drink easily and to its fill. Kabsha said: Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) noticed me watching in this manner and said: O niece! Are you surprised? I said: Yes. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It (the cat) is not impure, for it is one of those (animals) that move around among you frequently." (That is, it is a domestic animal that comes and goes all the time.)
