Hadith 754

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): I heard that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the water in the wilderness from which cattle and wild animals drink (whether it can be used). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the amount of water reaches two qullahs, nothing makes it impure (filthy)."

Brief Explanation
Explanation of Hadith 753

Qullah refers to a large earthenware jar; its dual form is qullatan, which in the genitive case becomes qullatayn. According to modern measurements, the quantity of qullatayn is two hundred and twenty-seven kilograms.

The meaning of this hadith is that if the amount of water is less than two jars, it becomes impure merely by the falling of impurity into it, whether its color, smell, or taste changes or not. And if the amount of water is more than two qullah, then it will not be considered impure until one of the aforementioned three characteristics changes.
