Hadith 749

Kharijah bin Zaid Ansari reported that his father, Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Ablution is required after eating what has been cooked on fire." Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: Do you act upon this? He replied: No.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 748)

From this hadith, it is understood that eating something cooked over fire breaks ablution (wudu).
However, this hadith is abrogated by a hadith that comes later, and by "ablution" here is meant washing and rinsing the mouth.
Shah Waliullah rahimahullah has written that there was consensus (ijma‘) among the early generations (sadr awwal) that eating something cooked over fire does not break ablution.
Imam Darimi rahimahullah has mentioned, among the nullifiers of ablution, only the hadiths regarding: passing wind (riyh), sleep (nawm), and touching the private part (mass adh-dhakar). Other hadith scholars have also mentioned, among the things that break ablution, the exiting of anything from the two passages (kharij min as-sabilayn), urine, feces, blood, madhiy, wadhi, semen (mani), and blood coming out from any part of the body, sleeping while lying down, touching the private part without a barrier, and eating camel meat.
Ablution is not broken by eating goat meat, touching the private part over clothing, or sleeping while sitting, as Imam Darimi rahimahullah has stated his position, and this is the preferred (rajih) view.
(And Allah knows best).
