أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ هُوَ الْقَطْوَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ، أَخْبَرَنِي دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ، عَنْ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "السِّوَاكُ مَطْهَرَةٌ لِلْفَمِ، مَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ".
Narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The miswak purifies the mouth and pleases the Lord."
Brief Explanation

From this hadith, the virtue of using the miswak is understood. Islamic law has greatly encouraged cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness of the teeth and mouth. There is no harm in cleaning the teeth with tooth powder or toothpaste either. Experience testifies that those who regularly use the miswak have clean, strong teeth that are protected from decay and other such issues.
