أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِزَامِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ مَوْلَى الْمُزَنِيِّينَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: "عَرْضُ الْكِتَابِ وَالْحَدِيثُ سَوَاءٌ".
It is narrated from Hisham bin Urwah that his father (Urwah) said: Presenting the book and the hadith to the teacher is the same.

That is, whether one takes the book to show (to the teacher) or recites the hadith aloud and seeks permission to narrate it, both are the same thing.
