أَخْبَرَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ اللَّيْثَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ، يَقُولُ: "تَذَاكَرَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ لَيْلَةً بَعْدَ الْعِشَاءِ حَدِيثًا وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ مُتَوَضِّئًا، قَالَ: فَمَا زَالَ ذَلِكَ مَجْلِسَهُ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ"، قَالَ مَرْوَانُ: "جَعَلَ يَتَذَاكَرُ الْحَدِيثَ".
Marwan bin Muhammad reported that I heard from Laith bin Sa'd, he said: Ibn Shihab (Zuhri) was sitting one night after 'Isha making ablution, when he began to recall hadith, then he sat and kept recalling them until morning came. Marwan said: He kept discussing hadith.
