Abu Ayas said: I was staying with Amr bin Nu’man when a messenger of Mus’ab bin Zubair came to him during Ramadan with two thousand dirhams and said: The Amir (respected leader) sends you greetings and has ordered that we should not leave any honorable reciter (of the Qur’an) without a gift, so please accept these two thousand as expenses for this month. Amr bin Nu’man said: Convey my greetings to the respected Amir, and tell him: By Allah, we did not recite the Qur’an for the love of the world and dirhams.
