أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الْمُزَنِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: قَسَمَ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ مَالًا فِي قُرَّاءِ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ حِينَ دَخَلَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ، فَبَعَثَ إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ بِأَلْفَيْ دِرْهَمٍ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: اسْتَعِنْ بِهَا فِي شَهْرِكَ هَذَا، فَرَدَّهَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَعْقِلٍ وَقَالَ: "لَمْ نَقْرَأْ الْقُرْآنَ لِهَذَا".
It is narrated from Ubaid bin Al-Hasan that Mus'ab bin Zubair distributed some wealth among the reciters of Kufa at the beginning of Ramadan, and sent two thousand dirhams to Abdur Rahman bin Ma'qil and said: Take help from this wealth in this blessed month. But Abdur Rahman bin Ma'qil returned those dirhams and said: We do not recite the Qur'an for this (worldly gain).
