Hadith 460

Abdur Rahman bin Harmalah said that a man came to Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, may Allah have mercy on him, to bid him farewell for Hajj or Umrah. Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Do not leave the mosque without performing prayer, because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'After the call to prayer, only a hypocrite flees from the mosque, except for a man who leaves the mosque out of necessity and intends to return to the mosque.'" The man said: "My companions are in Harrah," and he left. Sa'id, may Allah have mercy on him, kept asking about him with great concern until he was informed that the man had fallen from his mount and his thigh was broken.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 459)

The hadith prohibiting leaving the mosque after hearing the adhan is also coming ahead at number (1239), and the fact that Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib rahimahullah repeatedly inquired about this person shows that he was certain that, due to opposing the Sunnah, Allah Ta‘ala would definitely punish this person—which indeed happened, and he was punished in this world itself for opposing the Sunnah.

May Allah Ta‘ala protect all of us from opposing the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Allah Ta‘ala has said regarding Pharaoh: «﴿فَعَصَى فِرْعَوْنُ الرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا﴾ [المزمل : 16]» Translation: “So Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger, so We seized him with a severe punishment.”

That is, for the crime of opposing Musa alayhis salam, he was drowned.
