أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ أَبَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: "كُنَّا نَحْفَظُ الْحَدِيثَ، وَالْحَدِيثُ يُحْفَظُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى رَكِبْتُمْ الصَّعْبَة وَالذَّلُولَ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: We used to memorize the hadith until you mixed things into it, and hadith is to be memorized from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
