باب التَّوْبِيخِ لِمَنْ يَطْلُبُ الْعِلْمَ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ:Chapter: Rebuke for Seeking Knowledge for Other Than Allah
Hadith 378
أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيل هُوَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ، عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: "مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِأَرْبَعٍ، دَخَلَ النَّارَ أَوْ نَحْوَ هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةِ: لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ، أَوْ لِيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، أَوْ لِيَصْرِفَ بِهِ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ، أَوْ لِيَأْخُذَ بِهِ مِنْ الْأُمَرَاءِ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever seeks knowledge for four things will enter Hell. Or he said a similar statement (these things are): to boast over the scholars with that knowledge, or to argue with foolish ignorant people through it, or to turn the faces (hearts) of people towards himself with it, or to gain something from the rulers through that knowledge.
