Hadith 3468

Humaid bin Abdur Rahman narrated from his father that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about «﴿قُلْ هُوَ اللّٰهُ أَحَدٌ﴾», so he (peace be upon him) said: "It is one third of the Qur'an," or, "It is equal to one third of the Qur'an."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 3459 to 3468)

From these narrations, it is understood that if a person recites «﴿قُلْ هُوَ اللّٰهُ أَحَدٌ﴾» three times, he receives the reward of reciting the entire Qur’an. This is why the Prophet of Islam sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself used to recite this surah after every prayer and at bedtime along with the Mu'awwidhatayn, and he would always do so. According to one opinion, it is called one-third of the Qur’an because the Noble Qur’an contains three types of subjects:
1- Tawhid (monotheism)
2- Risalah (prophethood)
3- Actions (deeds)
This surah contains the mention of tawhid, and within it are present all three types of tawhid; therefore, it is considered one-third of the Qur’an.
