Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Is there anyone among you who is unable to recite one third of the Qur’an in a single night?” The Companions said: We are weak and unable to recite that much of the Qur’an in one night (i.e., we cannot recite a third of the Qur’an in any way). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah Almighty has divided the Qur’an into three parts (i.e., in terms of meanings and concepts: stories, rulings, and attributes (of Allah Almighty)), and «قُلْ هُوَ اللّٰهُ أَحَدٌ» (Surah Al-Ikhlas) is considered as one third. (In which the comprehensive attributes of Allah Almighty are mentioned).”
