Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The first seven long surahs of the Qur'an are like the Torah, and the surahs of two hundred verses are like the Gospel, and the remaining surahs are like the Psalms, and after that, the entire Qur'an is in addition to these heavenly books.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 3431)
The scholars of Qur’anic recitation and exegesis have divided the 114 surahs of the Noble Qur’an into four stages:
(1) The first category is *as-sab‘ at-tiwal* (السبع الطوال), meaning the seven long surahs, which are from Surah al-Baqarah to Surah at-Tawbah, and according to some, up to Surah Yunus.
(2) The second category is *mi’in* (میئین), meaning the surahs that are approximately 100 verses, beginning from Surah Hud or Surah Yunus.
(3) The third category is *mathani* (مثانی), which are those surahs that are recited repeatedly, and these extend up to Surah al-Fath.
(4) The fourth category is *mufassal* (مفصل), which begins from Surah Qaf or Surah al-Hujurat. They are called *mufassal* because “Bismillah” is mentioned repeatedly between them, and it serves as a boundary between one surah and the next. This category itself is divided into three types:
1. The long *mufassal* (طوال مفصل), from Surah ‘Amma (an-Naba’) to Surah Inshiqaq or Surah Buruj; 2. From there up to Surah ad-Duha is the middle *mufassal* (اوساط مفصل); 3. And from Surah ad-Duha to Surah an-Nas is the short *mufassal* (قصار مفصل).
