Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadith 3410)
Surah al-Baqarah is the longest surah of the Noble Qur’an. “Baqarah” means cow; the story of the cow is mentioned in this surah, hence it was named Surah al-Baqarah.
In terms of rulings and commands, prohibitions and restrictions of Islam, it is very comprehensive.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah, by mentioning the virtues of Ayat al-Kursi and the last two verses, has indicated towards its merits. In Sahih Muslim it is stated: Do not make your homes into graveyards; the house in which Surah al-Baqarah is recited, Shaytan does not enter it.
See: [مسلم 780] and [ترمذي 2880، وقال: هذا حديث حسن صحيح].
Also, in [صحيح مسلم 804] it is stated: Surah al-Baqarah and Aal Imran will come on the Day of Resurrection in the form of two clouds or two flocks of birds, which will defend the one who recited them. Recite al-Baqarah, for retaining it is a blessing and abandoning it is a cause of regret, and magicians cannot withstand it.
