Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 3379 to 3383)
In all these traditions and hadiths, there is encouragement to recite the Noble Qur’an, to memorize it, to retain it, and to remain constantly attached to it. There is also a warning that after memorizing it, a Muslim should not neglect it, but should continue to revise it and act upon it. Among these is also mentioned the miracle of the Noble Qur’an, that by reciting it repeatedly, it always feels fresh and never becomes tiresome. There are so many Muslims who, despite being literate, neither open the Qur’an to look at it, nor recite it, nor make any effort to understand it.
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma asked: O Messenger of Allah! In how many days can I complete the recitation of the Noble Qur’an? He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied: In one month. He said: I have the strength to recite more. He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied: In twenty-five days, then in twenty days, until he said: In five days.
This narration is coming ahead at number (3518).
In another narration, the minimum period for completing the recitation of the Noble Qur’an is three days.
Shaykh Ibn Baz rahimahullah said: One should certainly complete one Qur’an in a month, and the minimum is in three days.
It is prohibited to complete the Noble Qur’an in less than three days.
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: Whoever completes the recitation of the Qur’an in less than this will not understand anything.
See: [سنن ابن ماجه 1347].
May Allah Almighty grant all Muslims the ability to recite the Noble Qur’an, to memorize it, to understand it, and to act upon it. Ameen.
