Hadith 3379

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is very bad for any of you to say, 'I forgot such and such verse,' (rather, one should say) 'I was made to forget.' And keep reciting the Noble Qur'an, for its slipping away from the hearts of people is swifter than the escape of a camel."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 3372 to 3379)

That is, "I forgot."

Saying this is prohibited because this expression gives the impression that forgetting is his own voluntary action, whereas in reality, it is dependent upon the will of Allah Ta'ala; He may instill the Qur'an in whomever's heart He wills, and erase it from whomever's heart He wills.
