Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver a sermon. He praised Allah and glorified Him, then said: "O people! I am a human being. Soon, the messenger of my Lord (the angel of death) will come to me and I will accept (his call). I am leaving among you two weighty things: the first is the Book of Allah, in it is guidance and light. So hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it firmly." Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged and urged towards the Book of Allah. Then he said: "And my family (Ahl al-Bayt), I remind you by Allah regarding my family, I remind you by Allah regarding my family, I remind you by Allah regarding my family." He said this three times.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 3347)
This sermon was delivered by the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in the ninth year of Hijrah at the place of Ghadir Khumm while returning from the Farewell Pilgrimage (Hajjat al-Wada‘). The last bequest that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made to his Ummah was precisely this: to hold firmly to the Two Weighty Things (Thaqalayn). By Thaqalayn is meant the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. They are called Thaqalayn either due to their greatness and lofty status, or because acting upon them is weighty (i.e., a grave responsibility). In the Noble Qur’an, jinn and mankind are also referred to as Thaqalayn.
One bequest the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made was to treat his Ahl al-Bayt well. By Ahl al-Bayt is meant the Pure Wives (azwaj mutahharat), Banu Hashim, Banu Abd al-Muttalib, and some have said: Banu Qusayy and all the people of Quraysh.
In this very hadith of Muslim, it is mentioned at the end that when Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Arqam radi Allahu anhu was asked, “Who are the Ahl al-Bayt?” he replied: “They are the family of Ali, the family of Aqil, the family of Ja‘far, and the family of Abbas, for whom receiving charity (sadaqah) is forbidden.”
