Hadith 3347

حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ هُوَ الْهَجَرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: "إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ مَأْدُبَةُ اللَّهِ، فَتَعَلَّمُوا مِنْ مَأْدُبَتِهِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ، إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ حَبْلُ اللَّهِ، وَالنُّورُ الْمُبِينُ، وَالشِّفَاءُ النَّافِعُ، عِصْمَةٌ لِمَنْ تَمَسَّكَ بِهِ، وَنَجَاةٌ لِمَنْ اتَّبَعَهُ، لَا يَزِيغُ فَيَسْتَعْتِبُ، وَلَا يَعْوَجُّ فَيُقَوَّمُ، وَلَا تَنْقَضِي عَجَائِبُهُ، وَلَا يَخْلَقُ عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الرَّدِّ، فَاتْلُوهُ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْجُرُكُمْ عَلَى تِلَاوَتِهِ بِكُلِّ حَرْفٍ عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ، أَمَا إِنِّي لَا أَقُولُ ( الم ) وَلَكِنْ بِأَلِفٍ، وَلَامٍ، وَمِيمٍ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Verily, this Qur'an is the banquet of Allah, so acquire as much knowledge from His banquet as you can. Indeed, this Noble Qur'an is the rope of Allah, light, healing, and beneficial. Whoever holds fast to it, for him it is a means (of protection from sins), and whoever follows it, for him it is salvation. Whoever walks upon it will not go astray so that he would need to seek approval, nor will he be crooked so that he would need to be straightened. Its wonders will never cease, and it will not become old by repeated recitation. Recite it, for indeed Allah the Exalted will reward you for its recitation; for every letter, there are ten good deeds. I do not say that "Alif Lam Meem" is one letter, but rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter.

Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadith 3346)

Although the chain of narration of this athar is weak, all the statements regarding the description of the Noble Qur’an are based on reality, and for every statement there is evidence in the Qur’an or Hadith: « ﴿وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللّٰهِ جَمِيعًا .....﴾ [آل عمران : 103]» and «﴿وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَا يَزِيدُ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًا﴾ [الإسراء : 82]» as well as «مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللّٰهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ [مسلم : 868]، اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ، فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَفِيعًا لِأَصْحَابِهِ [مسلم : 804] وفي رواية: كِتَابُ اللّٰهِ فِيهِ الْهُدَى وَالنُّورُ مَنِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِهِ وَأَخَذَ بِهِ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى، وَمَنْ أَخْطَأَهُ ضَلَّ [مسلم 2408] او كما قال عليه الصلاة والسلام». It is also correct that the wonders of this Noble Qur’an will never come to an end. A clear example of this is that in the past fourteen hundred years, countless commentaries (tafasir) have been written; every exegete (mufassir) presents a new approach and example, and this process continues to this day. If one reflects on how many commentaries have been published in just the last decade in Urdu alone, and in every commentary one finds and understands a new style, and for this reason, when some of the predecessors (aslaf) were asked, “You spend the whole night reciting the Qur’an and do not even sleep?” they replied: “What can I do? When I recite the Qur’an, I do not finish marveling at one wonder before another wonder begins.”
