Hadith 3342

Uqbah bin Amir says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "If the Noble Qur'an is written on leather and then thrown into the fire, it will not burn."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 3337 to 3342)

The Noble Qur’an is the speech of Allah and a heavenly scripture; there is no doubt that for every single letter recited from it, the reciter receives ten rewards. Further virtues of the Holy Qur’an are also mentioned ahead. Although the chain of narration of this hadith is weak, Allah Ta’ala sometimes manifests such wonders in the world. A few years ago, a Saudi airplane met with an accident; the pilot’s clothes and body were burned, but the copy of the Holy Qur’an kept in his pocket remained safe from burning. Newspapers mentioned this sign of Allah Ta’ala in bold letters.

Imam Tahawi rahimahullah has written that its meaning is that before burning, Allah Ta’ala erases its letters.

And Allah knows best.
