Hadith 3305

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ شَرِيكٍ، عَنْ الْأَشْعَثِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: "الْمُدَبَّرُ مِنْ الثُّلُثِ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A mudabbar slave will be freed only from the one-third (of the estate of the deceased).

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 3296 to 3305)

A "mudabbir" slave is that male or female slave whom the owner has said, "After my death, you are free." The rulings regarding this have already been mentioned previously. Here, the issue being stated is that such a slave will be freed only from one-third of the deceased's wealth, whether it is the whole or a part.
