Hadith 3282

Abdullah said: Two things are bitter: being held back in life and being extravagant at the time of death. Imam Darimi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: It is said that it is bitter in life and also bitter at the time of death.

Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadith 3281)
It is the dual form of «الْمُرَيَّان: مُرَّىٰ», like sughra and kubra, on the pattern of fa‘liyy. By this is meant that during life and good health, a person clings tightly to his wealth, avoids charity and almsgiving, and when death becomes apparent to him, then he engages excessively in charity and almsgiving.
