Hadith 328

Abu Muammar said: When I hear a hadith in a certain style or tone, I follow it in the same manner as I heard it, adopting that style.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 322 to 328)
From all these traditions and statements, it is understood that narrating a hadith with its exact wording is very commendable, as Ibn Umar, Ibn Sirin, Abu Ma'mar, and others would narrate hadiths in the very words in which they heard them. However, if the meaning is correct, then narrating by meaning (riwayah bil-ma'na) is also permissible, as is narrated from Shu'bi, Nakha'i, Hasan al-Basri, and others. But in narration by meaning, one should say «أو كما قال صلى اللّٰه عليه وسلم», as has been mentioned in the previous chapter.
