Ibrahim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Emancipation will be given precedence over a bequest.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 3258 to 3264)

From all these traditions, it is established that in various bequests, emancipation (ʿitāq — freeing of slaves) will take precedence over all others. This demonstrates the strong encouragement in Islam for freeing slaves, and that it carries a very great reward and merit.

Even at this time, slavery exists in Africa, and there, slaves are bought and sold.
