It is narrated from Abu Bakr bin Amr bin Hazm that a woman from Banu Muharib gifted the wala’ (right of inheritance) of her slave to the same (slave) and set him free. That slave then gave his wala’ (right of inheritance) to Abdur Rahman bin Amr bin Hazm. Later, when the woman died, the freed slave’s mawali (clients) filed a case before Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for proof of his statement. The slave brought the proof, so he (Uthman) decided: “Go, and appoint whomever you wish as your wali (patron).” Thus, he appointed Abdur Rahman bin Amr bin Hazm as his wali, that is, as the inheritor of the wala’.

Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Ahadith 3185 to 3188) From all these authentic narrations, it is established that only men will inherit the right of wala’ (clientship); women will not inherit the right of wala’. However, if a woman herself frees a slave, then she will inherit the right of wala’ of her freed slave. And Allah knows best.
