Hadith 3136

It is narrated from Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him), that Sayyiduna Ali and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The child of adultery is in the same status as the child of cursing (ibn al-mula'anah).

Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadith 3135)

A child of adultery (walad al-zina) is the child who is born as a result of fornication. And the "son of the woman who has been subjected to li'an" (ibn al-mula'anah) is the one whose husband has denied paternity, and as a result of the accusation of adultery against the woman, the husband and wife have been separated through the process of li'an. Such a child will be called ibn al-mula'anah, and his heir will be his mother, not his father. Similarly, the child of adultery will be attributed to the mother, and his heir will also be the mother. The man who committed adultery will also not be an heir.
