حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَطَرًا الْوَرَّاقَ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ عُمَرُ، وَعَلِيٌّ: "الْوَلاءُ لِلْكِبَرِ".
Mutar Al-Warraq said: Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The right of allegiance (wala’) is for the elder.
