It is narrated from Imam Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A freed slave is a religious brother and a brother who sets free, and the one most entitled to his inheritance is the one who is closest to the one who set him free." By «نعمة» is meant «صاحب المنه».

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 3038)
In the era of slavery, it was customary that a slave woman or man could gain freedom by paying their master an agreed-upon sum of money. However, after attaining freedom, their inheritance would go to their former masters. Islam, while abolishing slavery, also put an end to such erroneous and deeply flawed customs, and clarified that whoever emancipates a slave, if after the slave’s death there is no blood relative to inherit, then the emancipator alone will be entitled to inherit as an ‘asaba (agnatic heir). This is the meaning of the term “wala’.”
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: «الولاء لمن اعتق» (Agreed upon) The wala’ (right of inheritance) of the freed person belongs to the one who set him free.
