حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: "لَيْسَ لِلْمُكَاتَبِ مِيرَاثٌ، مَا بَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ مِنْ مُكَاتَبَتِهِ".
Ibrahim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: There is no inheritance for the mukatab as long as there remains an amount due upon him according to the contract.

(Commentary on Hadith 3034)
A "mukatab" refers to that male or female slave with whom the owner has made an agreement to grant freedom on the condition of paying a specified amount of wealth. Thus, until that amount is fully paid, the slave will neither become free nor inherit (from the owner).
