Asim bin Umar bin Qatadah Ansari reported that the Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), searched for the heir of Ibn ad-Dahdahah but did not find him, so he gave the wealth of Ibn ad-Dahdahah to his maternal uncles.

Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Ahadith 3005 to 3009)
Dhawi al-arham refers to those relatives who are neither among the ashab al-furud (those entitled to fixed shares) nor among the ‘asaba (agnatic heirs), such as: maternal uncle, maternal aunt, paternal aunt, cousin (daughter of paternal uncle), sister’s son, sister’s daughter, and the children of one’s daughter (granddaughter, grandson through daughter), etc., who are not heirs.
There is a difference of opinion regarding the inheritance of these relatives. Some of the noble Companions, the Tabi‘in, and the Imams, rahimahumullah, do not consider them as heirs, because Allah Ta‘ala did not make them heirs in His Book. On the contrary, some Companions and Tabi‘in have considered them as heirs, as is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu in the aforementioned athar. In one hadith it is stated: «الخال وارث من لا وارث له»[ترمذي 2104]. And in this issue, this is the position of Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah, and Imam Ahmad rahimahullah also holds this view. Allah Ta‘ala’s statement is: «﴿وَأُولُوالْأَرْحَامِبَعْضُهُمْأَوْلَىبِبَعْضٍ .....﴾ [الأحزاب : 6]».
