Hadith 2933

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote regarding the inheritance of the grandfather, but when he was wounded by a spear, he had what was written brought to him and erased it, and said: You people should use your own judgment in this matter.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2932)

The explicit mention of inheritance shares for the grandfather, grandson, paternal uncle, and nephews is not found in the Noble Qur’an, but in the authentic ahadith from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), their entitlement to shares in inheritance is established. In several cases, the grandfather receives a share in the inheritance.
