Bishr bin Umar said: I asked Ibn Abi al-Zinad: A man left behind a daughter and a sister, how will the inheritance be divided? He said: His daughter will get half, and whatever remains will go to the sister. And he said that my father, Kharijah bin Zaid, informed me that Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) used to consider sisters as 'asaba (residuary heirs) along with daughters, and would give them from the inheritance whatever remained after the other heirs.
