أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ: أَنَّ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ كَانَ لَا يُوَرِّثُ الْأُخْتَ مِنْ الْأَبِ، وَالْأُمِّ مَعَ الْبِنْتِ حَتَّى حَدَّثَهُ الْأَسْوَدُ أَنَّ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ جَعَلَ لِلْبِنْتِ النِّصْفَ، وَلِلْأُخْتِ النِّصْفَ"، فَقَالَ: أَنْتَ رَسُولِي إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَة، فَأَخْبِرْهُ بِذَاكَ، وَكَانَ قَاضِيَهُ بِالْكُوفَةِ.
It is narrated from Aswad bin Yazid that Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn al-Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) would not give a share in inheritance to a full sister along with a daughter, until Aswad informed him that Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) had given half to the daughter and the remainder to the full sister. Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Go to Abdullah bin Uqbah as my envoy; at that time Abdullah bin Uqbah was their judge in Kufa. So Aswad went to him and informed him of the solution to this issue.
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 2912 to 2914)
That is, Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr radi Allahu anhu accepted the statement of Sayyiduna Mu'adh ibn Jabal radi Allahu anhu and said that this matter should also be conveyed to our judge in Kufa.
Subhan Allah! How much mutual respect there was, and they were not obsessed with imposing their own opinions.
Radi Allahu anhum wa ardahum.
