أَخْبَرَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ لَيَتَرَاءَوْنَ أَهْلَ الْغُرَفِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ كَمَا تَرَوْنَ الْكَوْكَبَ الدُّرِّيَّ فِي السَّمَاءِ" . قَالَ أَبُو حَازِمٍ: فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ، فَحَدَّثَنِي , عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ: أَنَّهُ قَالَ: "الْكَوْكَبُ الدُّرِّيُّ فِي السَّمَاءِ الشَّرْقِيُّ وَالْغَرْبِيُّ".
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The people of Paradise will look at those in the upper chambers above them as you see a brilliant star shining in the sky (i.e., the difference in ranks will be so great and distant).” Abu Hazim said: I narrated this hadith to Nu’man bin Abi ‘Ayyash, and he said: Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me, and he said: Just as you see a brilliant star at the edge of the sky in the east or the west.
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2864)
It is mentioned in Sahih Bukhari: The people of Paradise will look at the upper chambers (of Paradise) in the same way that you see the stars in the sky. And in another narration: just as you see the stars setting at the eastern and western horizons.
That is, here it is «لَيَتَرَاءَوْنَ أَهْلَ الْغُرَفِ» and in Bukhari it is «لَيَتَرَاءَوْنَ الْغُرَفَ», and here it is «الْكَوْكَبَ الدُّرِّيِّ» and in Bukhari it is «الْكَوْكَبَ الْغَارِبَ». In any case, the meaning is that a star appears shining very far away on the horizon; likewise, the dwellings and upper chambers of the people of Paradise will be visible from afar.
May Allah, by His grace and mercy, include us among the inhabitants of those upper chambers. Ameen.
