Hadith 2858

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The very first group of my Ummah to enter Paradise will have faces as bright as the full moon, then the group that enters after them will be like the brightest star in the sky." At that time, Sayyiduna ‘Ukasha (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He makes me among them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, make ‘Ukasha among them." Then another companion stood up and requested: O Messenger of Allah! Pray for me as well that Allah makes me among them. He said: "'Ukasha has preceded you."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2857)

In the Sahihayn, there is no mention of the precedence (sabq) of Sayyiduna ‘Ukasha radi Allahu anhu; rather, the other attributes of the people of Paradise are mentioned there, such as that there will be no malice or envy in their hearts, they will not fall ill, nor will they have saliva or phlegm, and so on.

The mention of the precedence of Sayyiduna ‘Ukasha radi Allahu anhu has already passed earlier at number (2842), among those people of Paradise who will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment, and it is also mentioned in this hadith here. It is possible that this was mentioned on two separate occasions, or that some narrators have reported it in a concise manner in some places and in detail in others. And this Sayyiduna ‘Ukasha bin Mihsan Asadi radi Allahu anhu was a very eminent Companion; during the Battle of Badr, his sword broke, so the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave him a stick, which became a sword in his hand. He passed away during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu at the age of 45.
